I was never the best student as a kid, but time is a great teacher. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that learning from life experience is not enough – I also need to learn from those with different experiences who know more than me, and I like to do that by listening and reading.
Recently, I attended a leadership conference called “EntreLeadership” where I got to listen to some incredible speakers: Patrick Lencioni, Malcom Gladwell, and Jordan Peterson (to name a few). Look these guys up if you’re not familiar with them – you won’t regret it. If I had to summarize the event in a word, I’d call it inspiring – so inspiring that I’ve started reading books published by the event’s speakers for a deeper dive into their experience and knowledge.
Scott Wozniak, a “customer experience” coach, published a video recently about leadership where he recommended being a “humble learner” instead of a “proud poser”. The idea resonated with me and reminded me that there is always more to learn. Whether it’s an entire company, a department, a crew, or even a family, we all have people that depend on our guidance and leadership. As soon as we think we have all the answers, we limit our own abilities and we let down the people that count on us.
I want to thank our great employees and our fabulous customers for everything I learn from them and all they do to make Tennessee safer.
Respectfully,
William “Bill” Turner President Tennessee811
