2024 is starting out strong. April, celebrated as National Safe Digging Month, was our busiest April ever with 98,742 locate requests. Our ticket volume is up more than 6% for the year so far, and the indicators seem to point to that trend sticking around.
With the support of the enforcement board, we had success in the legislature this year, passing an amendment to the Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act (special thanks to the staff of the Tennessee Public Utility Commission for their help in drafting the language). The changes impact emergency tickets, the
penalty structure for violations of the law, the use of monies from the Damage Prevention Fund, and a few other housekeeping items. See page 7 for more information; the amendment will take effect July 1, 2024. If you have questions or comments about these legislative changes or recommendations for future improvements, you can contact me directly or contact your representative on the enforcement board.
