 Single Point Excavaons Markings
• Delineate in white paint the proposed area
of excavaon using a connuous line, dots marking the radius or arcs, dashes marking the four corners of the project, or dashes outlining the excavaon project.
• Limit the size of each dash to approximately 6 in. to 12 in. long and 1 in. wide with interval spacing approximately 4 to 50 apart.
• Reduce the separaon of excavaon marks to a length that can reasonably be seen by the operator’s locators when the terrain at an excavaon site warrants.
• Dots of approximately 1 in. diameter typically are used to define arcs or radii and may be placed at closer intervals in lieu of dashes.
Connuous Excavaon Marking
• Mark in white paint the proposed centerline
of planned excavaon using 6 in. to 12 in. × 1 in. arrows approximately 4 to 50 apart to show direcon of excavaon.
• Reduce the separaon of excavaon marks to a length that can reasonably be seen by the operator’s locators when the terrain at an excavaon site warrants.
• Mark lateral excavaons with occasional arrows showing excavaon direcon from centerline with marks at curb or property line if crossed.
• Dots may be used for curves and closer interval marking.
The following graphic provides examples for commonly used pre-marking / white lining in accordance with CGA Best Pracces.
What if the pre-marking / white lining does not match the marking instrucons listed on the one-call cket?
Where the proposed area described in the one-call cket is not consistent with, or is in contradicon to, the area designated by white line markings, the ulity operator and/or their locator shall mark the area described in the one-call cket, or if deemed necessary, contact the person responsible for the excavaon or demolion to resolve such conflict or contradicon.
